BSkyB to deliver news on take-up of online movie service

BSkyB will release details of the number of subscribers to its new Now TV service when it announces first-half results this week.

Customers do not have to be Sky subscribers to access the internet film service, which was launched last year as the company’s answer to rivals Netflix and Lovefilm.

Strong take-up will be welcomed as a sign that the satellite broadcaster is still a step ahead of the growing number of rivals, while weaker take-up might be an indication that the economy is finally hitting a company that appeared recession-proof.
